Fourth year environmental engineering doctoral student Arisbeth Ibarra Nieblas recently appeared on KXCI 93.1's Thesis Thursdays podcast to discuss her work with Tucson Water to study water monitoring systems.

"The goal of the program and my job is to create this automated system that can monitor the water chemistry and the corrosion rate of the metal pipes, and the hopefully find a relationship between these two things in order to predict pipe failures or pipe leaks before we start losing water," Nieblas said.

Nieblas is also a fourth-year Sustainable Bioeconomy for Arid Regions (SBAR) Fellow, where she works developing and teaching science lessons and experiments to middle school students. After completing her PhD, she wants to continue working in science education.

Nieblas grew up in Sonora, Mexico.
