ABET Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering program and the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering program are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, abet.org.

Accreditation by ABET is an assurance that the program meets the quality standards of the profession for which it prepares graduates.

These standards include objectives and outcomes defined by the faculty with input from the department’s industrial advisory board and from alumni.

Program Educational Objectives for Chemical Engineering

The Undergraduate Program in Chemical Engineering will produce graduates that will:

  • Excel in careers in chemical engineering, having mastered engineering fundamentals and applications, communication skills, critical thinking and teamwork

  • Excel in graduate programs in chemical engineering and related disciplines

  • Succeed in diverse career paths, including engineering design and management, product manufacturing, process technology, research, health, law, and entrepreneurship

  • Consider the safety, environmental, ethical, and societal implications in every aspect of their work

Program Educational Objectives for Environmental Engineering

The Undergraduate Program in Environmental Engineering will produce graduates that will:

  • Excel in careers in environmental engineering having mastered engineering fundamentals, communication skills, critical thinking and teamwork
  • Excel in graduate programs in environmental engineering and related disciplines
  • Make use of the versatility of the environmental engineering program to succeed in diverse career paths including engineering design and management, policy and regulatory compliance, public health, law, and business
  • Consider the environmental, health, safety, ethical, and societal implications in every aspect of their work
