About CHEE
Well-Balanced and Forward-Thinking
CHEE is one of the few blended chemical and environmental engineering departments in the country. Researchers work together to promote the invention of sustainable technology to support the economy in Arizona, the nation and the world.
Chemical engineering students learn to approach problems with an environmentally conscious perspective. Environmental engineering students receive a strong background in process engineering.
CHEE faculty – including center directors, distinguished university professors, NSF career award winners, and international institution fellows -- balance teaching, research and service while providing personal attention to their students.
From creative classrooms that keep all students on track to interdisciplinary research – with strengths in water and wastewater, aerosols and climate, bioproducts and alternative energy – CHEE programs are forward thinking and well balanced.
The CHEE approach pays off: students who rise to the challenge of rigorous academics, faculty and staff who care each and every day, outreach that makes a difference for people near and far, and research that knows no bounds.
The CHEE Student Experience
A Built-In Support System
"Every engineering professor I’ve had has been so supportive and I’ve felt like they truly want their students to succeed. The CHEE department, especially, is so collaborative and it’s fun getting to work with a variety of students. I would describe my experience as collaborative, full of growth, and challenging (in a good way!)."
Hannah McCollum, chemical engineering major
Academics Steeped in Active Learning
Students in CHEE programs aren’t just hearing about engineering – they are experiencing it, in the classroom with active learning and outside the classroom with research, design projects, internships, STEM outreach and club competitions.
Earn your bachelor’s, master's or doctoral degree in chemical engineering or environmental engineering at the University of Arizona.
