R. Bruce Scott

Class of 1960, BS in Chemical Engineering
rbrucescott38@cox.net

While I was earning my degree in chemical engineering, Dr. Don White was head of the department and Dr. Edwards was one of our professors. We helped design some of the features of the ChemE lab as part of our class projects. I think 10-12 seniors graduated in 1960.

After graduation I spent one year in California. We didn’t like the smog and came back to Arizona. I worked for Garrett AiResearch in Phoenix mostly as a research metallurgist. We developed a few new alloys for use in gas turbines. After a few changes, I wound up with the Arizona Department of Health Services, ultimately becoming director of environmental health, which included air pollution, water pollution, solid waste and hazardous waste. I was with ADHS for 11 years and worked at the pleasure of the governor. I then created my own chemical-environmental consulting engineering firm, Scott, Allard & Bohannan. I have been retired for 15 years and love the hours!!!

On a personal note, my wife, Jane (who was also a student at the UA), and I celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary on June 20!! We went to Hawaii, and the whole immediate family joined us. One of the grandchildren described it the best – it was beyond amazing.

This picture was taken in the Dolomites and the lady in it, my wife, Nann, is the sister of a 1969 chemical engineering classmate of ours, Larry Novinski, now deceased. This bit of information may be news and of interest to some of our classmates. I also wanted to remind everyone that I’ll be out of the country again at Homecoming time and so unfortunately can’t make it to the Class of 1969 reunion.

Here I am at an old ghost town just to the east of Flagstaff. This is what is left of the trading post in the town of Canyon Diablo. The town was established to support the building of the railroad and had a peak population of 2,000 and was there from about 1880-1900.

Len Andersen

Class of 1972, BS in Chemical Engineering

I attended the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 2019 Turbo Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, in June, where there was enthusiasm for my invention focusing on internal combustion engines, fired boiler stacks, and water swirled into gas turbines combined cycles for more fuel efficiency.

Neal B. Gallagher

Class of 1992, PhD in Chemical Engineering
nealg@eigenvector.com

I just had the wonderful opportunity to teach applied multivariate analysis for chemical process and analytical chemistry (chemometrics) to folks in Switzerland. I would truly love to share the technology with the professors and students at UofA. I know it would have helped me way back when and would expect it would enable present efforts at the department. Cheers and best wishes!

Kelly Hasslinger Stark

Class of 1995, BS in Chemical Engineering
kelly@forwarddivision.net

I used my chemical engineering skills at recent mission trip to Guatemala with my kids where we setup brick stoves with a vent, water collector and filtration unit and solar powered lights. [Ed. note: See photo at top of page.]

Christian Montoya

Class of 2015, BS in Chemical Engineering and BS in Computer Science

Taking a break from the office to enjoy the history of Paris and the landscapes of Iceland. Fortunately, we were also able to cheer on our U.S. women's national soccer team as they earned a 2-1 victory over the host nation at Parc des Princes in Paris! [Ed. note: Jessyca Thomas, who received her BS in mechanical engineering from the UA in 2018, is traveling with Christian this summer.]

I began as a CHEE lecturer in fall 2018. Here’s a picture of me hiking in the Alps above Innsbruck, Austria, during my summer vacation in Europe.
