UBRP News Spotlights Shameema Sikder, Class of 2002

Dr. Shameema Sikder is an assistant professor of ophthalmology and cataract surgery education champion at the Wilmer Eye Institute. She specializes in corneal disorders, including Fuchs dystrophy and keratoconus, refractive surgery, cataract, and external eye diseases.

Dr. Sikder received her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and biochemistry from the University of Arizona, where she was a Undergraduate Biology Research Program student from 1999-2002. In 2000 she was awarded a Beckman Foundation Scholarship for her research in organic chemistry synthesis in the laboratory of Dominic McGrath. She also received her MD degree at the University of Arizona, receiving a distinction in research.
