First-Generation Undergrad Wins Engineering General Scholarship
Trisha Jean Lane, a first-generation college student, mother and member of the Diné (Navajo) tribe, recently earned the Engineering General Scholarship. Lane, an environmental engineering junior, is already paying it forward to other students.
As a participant in Pima-UAZ STEM Bridge, an Arizona Science Engineering Mathematics Scholars program, Lane is mentoring 10 students who transferred from Pima Community College.
“The scholarship has inspired me to help others and give back to the community,” said Lane. “One day I can help students achieve their goals as I have been helped.”
Lane works in the Karanikola Optimization Research for Environmental Sustainability, researching the characterization of novel sorbents tailored for PFAS removal from water.
