Faculty from the College of Engineering were responsible for more than 20% of the University of Arizona's patents over the past year. Tech Launch Arizona and the College celebrate their groundbreaking engineers every year at the Patent Luncheon, which marks breakthroughs in healthcare, energy storage, and computer chips.

“It speaks to the college, that we are drivers of an economic engine,” said David W. Hahn, the Craig M. Berge Dean of the College of Engineering. “These technologies go into the world and create spinout companies and enrich the economy.”

Retired CHEE associate professor Dominic Gervasio earned a patent medallion for "A System for Leaching Metal and Storing Energy." Gervasio's research interests include electrochemistry and synthesis. He has authored more than 60 peer reviewed papers and over a dozen patents.
