Kim Ogden, CHEE chair and professor, is the director of the AZ Institute of Advanced Energy Solutions and winner of the 2025 Distinguished Department Head Award.

The University of Arizona awarded Kim Ogden, Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering chair and professor, the 2025 Distinguished Department Head Award. The award is part of the U of A’s Luminaries Outstanding Faculty Awards, which recognize faculty who are working to better the human condition by shaping the future of science, arts, discovery and education.

Ogden, who has been CHEE faculty since 1992, was nominated by her colleagues for her contributions to multidisciplinary research and outreach.

"I’m very honored that the colleagues that I work with thought to honor me and put me in for this award,” Ogden said. “I have a really great team of people in my department.”

One of her projects brought together the Indigenous Food Energy Water Security Sovereignty Training Program team, which later established the Indigenous Resilience Center. Ogden also secured a $70 million research grant jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Bridgestone.

The university will celebrate Ogden at the 2025 Luminaries awards ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 16.
