Several students in chemical and environmental engineering won poster prizes at the AZ Water Research Symposium in April 2022.  Hosted by the Arizona Water Association, the three-day conference featured professional development and continuing education opportunities as well as industry representatives interested in technology transfer. Award recipients were:

  • Bianca Chaves: Young Professional Poster Prize
  • Mukta Hardikar and Aidan Foster: Third place Tie Poster Prize
  • Jack Welchert: First place Poster Prize

Chaves is a postdoctoral researcher in the Achilli Research & Teaching Lab, or ART Lab, led by CHEE assistant professor Andrea Achilli. Hardikar is a chemical engineering doctoral student in the ART Lab. Aidan Foster is a doctoral student in environmental sciences advised by WEST Center Director Ian Pepper. Welchert is a doctoral student in the Karanikola Optimization Research for Environmental Sustainability Lab, or KORES Lab, led by CHEE assistant professor Vicky Karanikola.

"The students did a fantastic job representing the University of Arizona at the AZ Water Research Symposium,” said CHEE assistant professor Kerri Hickenbottom. “The conference was a great opportunity for us to showcase our research capabilities and strengthen our relationships with ASU. It was also a chance for our students to see the bridge between academics, industry, and utilities and for them to interact with professionals and students from our neighboring universities."
